Hi,

Try boot from the original XP CD and perform a repair
install.

NOTE: Repair install, not clean install.

Thanks a lot for your response. I think you don't see this in the
initial menu right, so do you go into the regular install and select
repair option somewhere?

Also, is this a known issue or is it because I have to follow some
upgrade steps? I changed the hardware many times (like adding a cd
burner, and adding PCI cards or even adding other harddisks etc.), but
never faced this problem.

Yes, it is not the repair console. Select Install, then select Repair. You
can make some changes without a repair installation, but a new hard drive
will require it.

That did the trick, though it kind of reset some of my settings and
took a lot of time (seemed like it copied most of the files anyway),
it worked. Thanks for the help.
