View Full Version : DDR400 RAM on DDR266-motherboard?

Greetings --

How very odd. Belarc Advisor correctly identifies my model
motherboard, to include it's serial number, asset tag number, and BIOS
version. It also correctly identifies the makes and models of all of
my PCs hardware components. Sounds like your correspondent didn't
include the entire report, or had problems running it.

And while I usually agree with your assessment of the relative
value of free products/services, you're mistaken in this case. Did
you even bother testing the utility before arbitrarily dismissing its
potential usefulness?

Dear Friends,

My new system is as follow:
1) Motherboard = Gigabyte 8INXP ( DDR266, Chipset=Intel E7205, Dual Bios w/6 Sound + USB 2.0 + ATA133)
2) CPU = Pentium 2.8Ghz

May I enquire if a DDR400 RAM (Kingston) will work on my DDR-266 motherboard?

Thanks alot,
Merrvyn

Hello

Read your manual and it will tell you if it will support that memory
speed or not.

The 400 speed DDR may run on your mobo, but only at 266
because that is the speed of the bus. Unless you plan on a
mobo upgrade soon, save your money because 400 RAM is newer
and more expensive.
