Question: Is there a way in Microsoft Windows XP OR Office 2000 that I
can receive faxes AND use the computer as an answering machine? I have
Office 2000 pro installed. I know I can send and receive faxes, but
can I also set it up for a voice answering machine? You know, so I can
leave a message saying something like"... Leave a message after the
beep, or you my begin sending your fax now."

I'd like to find a way for windows to do it, but if there is a cheap
3rd part software, that would be OK, too.

Just search for winxp answering machine. Plenty of them out there, I
haven't used any so won't recommend one. Some are shareware and then up to
$20.

Of course, this assumes your MODEM is a data/fax/voice model. Otherwise, no
amount of software can do that.

Might likewise assume you would direct your reply to the OP.

You should be able to send faxes in windows using a fax driver, however to
recieve and setup an answer phone system etc you will probably need a third
party application...

Look through your driver disks that came with the PC you may find the the
modem disk has the software required to do this on the disk. *Most* companies
only install the driver to access the modem but not the full anwser phone
suite etc

I use BitWare but don't know if they still operate.
