View Full Version : External USB Modem Works on only One of Three Ports

I've installed software to permit using my cell phone as a wireless
modem via a USB cable (Verizon's "Mobile Office.")
Mobile Office works on only one of the 4 USB ports on my XP-powered, Fujitsu
Lifebook -- that is probably the lport I used when installing
Mobile Office. It will not function at all using any of the other
three ports.
I tested the other three USB ports with an external USB mouse to see if they're
functional, and they are.
I thought all USB devices, once installed on a computer, will work on
any and all of the computer's USB ports. What might account for Mobile
Office working on only one of four? (I've asked Verizon technicians;
they don't know.)
Thanks,
Joseph Carrier

It could be that the cellphone modem driver is "port locked".

Merci bien, Yves. I have a follow-up question though: Is
port-locking a "feature" of Windows XP that can be invoked by the user
or some USB modem software -- or is it just an occasional "bug" that
afflicts Windows XP?
