Shutdown won't work

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me why when I go to start and try to
shutdown my computer it refuses to do so? I haven't
installed any new programs or changed any of the
configurations, but I can't shut off my computer.
(Unless I pull the plug.)

Any Ideas on how I can fix this???
