You can use software such as Norton Ghost to move to the new drive, then you
will have to boot from the XP CD and do a repair installation.

I just built a new, faster Pc and want to move my HDD
from the old one to the new. I followed the MS knowledge
Base article #315341 and 312369, tried the repair
function by booting from the XP Home CD, but it went just
so far and came back with a message "cannot copy
file ?????" . Now when I try it, I get the blue screen in
a flash and then it reboots from the HD and won't boot
from the CD. Is there any way around this problem?

Double check that you have your memory seated and latched. I ran across
that issue just the other day. It looked like it was fine but the latch was
not locked. I could boot the CD partway but kept getting blue screens. It
was strange.

good luck
