I want to buy a new video card. eMachines claims I can
disable the built-in video card. Does anyone know what
program I would use to do this?

You don't use a program to disable it.

It really depends on the motherboard.
Best to check the documentation that came with your computer or post back
with specifications of your computer (ie motherboard info)

Not a program! The option to disable on-board video could be in two places
on the PC.

Place 1 -- Option could be in the BIOS -- You can turn it on or off

Place 2 -- Inside the computer case, there could be a small "jumper"
which you need to change the current setting
so as to turn the option on/off.

In addition, with some motherboards, inserting an AGP video card into an AGP
slot (if available) will disable the on-board video card.

All in all, it stresses the need for the poster to include all necessary
details about machine configuration.

3. Some on-board video will be automatically disabled when
you install a video card. If you have any choice, get an
AGP video card. I don't know if e-Machines uses
motherboards with an AGP slot. If not you'll get a PCI
video card.
