View Full Version : Help- Video Card problem......??

Hopefully I'm in the right area, but if not hopefully
someone will be able to give assistance.
I have a Geforce2 mx/mx400 64 mb video card. During the
past week I have experienced a noise coming from my pc.
Its a 2 tone sound; like a police car siren from England.
When I play a game, I get this noise. Ive switched and
play a totally different game; one that doesnt require a
CD to play, and I still get the same noise. I have a
video editing software program; and when I use it, I get
the noise. My pc knowledge is very limited. Based on what
I've observed, it does appear that this noise happens
whenever I use a program that may "demand" video quality
(thats why I mentioned my video card in the beginning).
The sound doesnt happen when I surf the web, or when I
use Excel. The only way I know to remove the sound is to
reboot my pc.
Is my problem coming from the video card? If so, do I
need to replace it, or is there a "tweak" soultion? Or
is the source of the problem somewhere else?
Any thoughts and/or help would be appreciated. Thanx.

You need to do some general troubleshooting, turn speakers
off to isolate that source.
If you have a mechanics stethoscope, check different
components.
Most likely cause/source would be something mechanical, such
as a fan bearing, but from what you said, it is hard to tell
anything. If you can swap cards with same make and model,
(often the only way to tell) you'll know more.

It sounds like an overheating alarm. Check the motherboard manual to see if
their description fits what you're hearing.
