Workstations are limited to 10 concurrent network connections (from =
other hosts). Is that enough for you?

You can use xp as server. But dont comfuse windows server 2003 as with xp, becuase the latter is a server software on its own which can be installed on almost any networks, however xp is just an operating system, which has its own networking protocol in it
. I hope this helps

Yup. big mistake by MS imo and XP pro is apparently considered a test web
server and is also limited. All in all it's to push you for Server or
Advanced server.. what do most people do these days? go get apache which has
no limit. That's what I did. Problem solved and no additional cost.

Windows NT4 had its workstation and server variants.
Windows 2000 had its workstation and server variants.
What, you don't think Windows XP is going to get sliced up, too?
The problem with Apache is that it doesn't replace the TCP/IP protocol =
used in Windows. Or does it? That would be highly corruptive to the =
OS. So I would think you would still be limited to 10 concurrent =
connections. I've ran Apache web server on Windows NT4 and 2000 =
workstations but that was only for testing and not to support the =
workload in a production environment. Maybe you meant you run Apache on =
Linux.
With VMware, you could have the host do double duty as a workstation and =
a server provided it had the horsepower for your expected load. You =
could have Windows XP running along with Linux. There's also Virtual PC =
(which Microsoft bought) to do something similar but from the mullings =
in the newsgroups it seems VMware is a better solution (although Virtual =
PC is cheaper). =20

No, XP will NEVER have a server variant. That's what Win2003 Server
is for; the update to Win2000 Server. There won't be an XP server.
Accept that.

Well, technically, both 2003 Server and XP (Pro and Home) are all JUST
operating systems. The big difference is that 2003 is a Server OS
while XP is a standalone, or client (in a LAN environment) OS.
