View Full Version : XP Pro upgrade issues

Hi!

I upgraded my wife's machine from Win98SE (retail full) to XPPro (retail
full) yesterday and there seems to be a rather serious "display" issue.
While the vast majority of applications seem to work fine, IE has problems
displaying all of the contents of certain websites, e.g. the Windows update
site worked fine for a while and I applied all of the patches, but when I go
back now all I get is a totally blank screen and IE says "Done". When I use
Yahoo maps on IE, I get the majority of the contents of the page, but the
map itself does not appear (although the "printable version" control
generates the appropriate map). Finally this morning I tried to add a new
user to the system and went thru the Control Panel to do so - all I got was
the title and task bar at the top of the screen. I have verified the correct
action of the web pages on my own system and everything works OK there.
Bottom line is that some graphic content is not being displayed in at least
a couple of applications.

Does anyone have any suggestions or pointers for further troubleshooting?

TIA,
Dave

Uninstall your video drivers (you'll go to standard vga) and reinstall
with drivers downloaded from the device mftr.'s website.

Update your video drivers to XP drivers.

A little more detail...

I've removed/reinstalled the video drivers, but that led to no change in
symptoms. The latest tests involved using SlimBrowser (which uses IE's
rendering engine and other facilities) and Opera to try the same web sites.
The sites showed the same problems in SlimBrowser but came through OK in
Opera. So now I expect that it is an IE issue - either code or setting. I'm
a touch cautious about doing a reinstall of Pro as I may still revert this
box to Win98 (I haven't even activated it yet) and I don't want to do
anything that may complicate the reversion.
