Disapearing desktop

Hello all.
When I go to use my computer after my screen saver has
started, I find I no longer have my desktop picture. I
get a blank screen of the color indicated in the display
properties in the desktop tab. I reset my desktop and the
picture comes back but I find this a little annoying.
This is a new install and I have the microsoft plus
package also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My desktop background manager has been disabled by some unknown virus.
I cannot set a background picture.
Is there a download to fix the desktop properties ?
