I had to replace my hard drive. I did a clean install of XP Pro. Following
the install, I get erratic pauses while running XP. When I move the mouse
it moves smoothly then pauses and moves smoothly again. Sound including the
startup tune is interrupted by breaks. My modem does not successfully dial
as it interrupted by these intermittent pauses. I have compared the drivers
on this install to those on my original install which did not have a
problem. Versions appear to be the same. Settings including performance
settings are the same. I have run Dell hardware diagnostics from a boot
CDrom so it was not influenced by XP. All systems passed.
This is a notebook, 1.6 Pentium 4, 512 MB memory, 60 MB 4300 RPM drive with
two partitions, XP partition: 23 MB.
Any ideas?
