View Full Version : Upgrade CPU - XP license problems?

I am preparing for a CPU upgrade.
I am assuming that I will get a Windows failure when I
restart with the new CPU.
Isn't there some way to do this without a reload
(restore) of Windows XP?

Also, I have a motherboard that allows for changes to the
FSB (bus speed). As part of the tuning I may change this
value resulting in differrent CPU speeds. How much can
this value change without encountering the XP license
issues?

If you haven't recently upgraded any other parts of your system then you
shouldn't have any problems...

If you do have a problem then the alternative to a full clean
re-installation is to do a repair installation (aka in-place upgrade) from
the XP CD menu.. Back up everything you want to keep safe first.

Changes to the FSB shouldn't have any noticeable effect on the license
check....

Hope that helps
