Hiya everyone,

I have a strange problem with my comp right now and I've had it since I
installed XP Home Edition two months ago, that is I can't play any games.

I have all the correct divers for my hardware and still when I go to a game
either it will hang or the sound will be really distorted, I first though it
might be an issue with my graphics card (a Hercules 3D Prophet 4000XT) but I
have all the correct divers although now I can't get anything to start on
it. I am beginning to think it might have something to do with my new
monitor which was purchased at the same time as XP. Being a LCD monitior it
has a refresh rate limit of 72Hertz at 1024x768 so I am thinking maybe the
games require a faster refresh rate.

Besides that I decided to install some older games to see if they ran, Tomb
Raider 2 and Sim City 3000 for example. They ran graphically fine but the
sound was damn awful...again all the drivers are fine for the sound card so
nothings wrong there.. or is it? The card is a Gamesound Muse Lt made by
again, Hercules.

If anyone can throw some light on to this matter I would much appreciate it.

Regards,
Mark.

You might want to move the muse to a different pci slot, never use the one
right next to the agp video card as that slot always shares resources with
the video card. It sounds like you might have a resource conflict there.
You might also want to be sure you've got the latest bios version fo your
motherboard as they often fix pci issues in bios updates.
