PLEASE help me to install the scanjet 5100c in Windows XP. All the
suggestions I have had so far are not working.
HP and "drivers" websites did not help.

HP, in their ultimate wisdom, only "kinda, sorta" supports 5100c for use
with Windows XP. That is, it supports upgrading a PC, where the 5100c
is already installed, to XP. They don't support installing the 5100c to
a computer, where XP is already installed.

It is kind of a, can't get there from here sort of situation.

If you plug the scanner in, via USB, you may be able to use XP's
built-in scanner functions. But, if XP is not recognizing that you have
a scanner, when you plug it in, then you would be well-advised to quit
banging your head against the wall, because it is a wall.

I'm not sure about the 5100c, but HP did upgrade their package for the 5300c
for working well with XP.

I think this is how I installed it [to a parallel port] [make a System
Restore point first]:

1. First I installed the drivers from my original Windows 98 cd.
2. Then I ran the "patch" - the XP drivers from the hp website [I think
sj660mu].
3. I was unable to boot, so had to enable interrupts on the parallel port
[Open Device Manager; right-click on the Printer Port [LPT1]; select
Properties;
select the "Port Settings" tab; in the "Filter Resource Method" select "use
any interrupt assigned to the port" and ok. Reboot.

Hope that works for you.
