No dial tone

I am using a DSL connection and I can not send a fax, I made sure the fax is properly set up and enabled to send faxes but when i try to send one I keep getting the message "No dial tone, the phone line is in use or not connected". I made sure the line was
free and connected, what can it be wrong???

Fax requires a dialup modem because many of the fax machines around the
world are of the telephone type.. your DSL connection is permanent and does
not dial out to connect.. buy a dial up modem or use a 'fax to e-mail'
service..
