View Full Version : Really slow first connection

I have 3 pc in my network, 1 w/ Win98Se and 2 with XP Home. Windows updates
done, Firmware on problem machine and router has been flashed. 2 of the PCs
network just fine. The third one, (xp) is very slow to log on to either of
the others. (3 to 5 MINUTES!) the other 2 work great. The (good) 98 box has
a 10 MBPS card, the other 2 have 10/100 and the router is 10/100. Once the
slow machine is logged on it works quite well, every bit as fast as the
other 2. If I let it log off my user it takes a while to get started again.
Internet access from this machine is consistantly nice and quick. So...
It does connect eventually, so I don't think its a firewall or a
sharing/permissions issue (running Norton 2003 with trusted zones set up in
2 good machines just XP ICF (tried disabling all firewalls, no difference)
so far in bad one.)
The internet goes through the same wire and its working great so I don't
think its a cabling issue.

Any thoughts on what I should be checking next? Please feel free to disagree
with either issue I have ruled out above if you think that may be my
problem.
TIA
