View Full Version : Windows Messenger 5.0 repair fails
Carl
March 29th 04, 09:44 PM
I installed Windows Messenger to try to fix a problem I was having with v4.7. Now when I try to view a fax in a Sharepoint Fax directory or try to copy and paste into MS Word 2003, the intaller for Windows Messenger v5.0 loads, fails to install and revert
s. The current veriosn of messenger is 5.0 and when I close it and choose repair from the install.exe a get an error "An error occured during the installation of assembly component {874793fc-5f43-496a-8fe7-18c4db9b143d} HRESULT: -2147024864"
Please help,
Carl

Greetings Carl,
Click Start, then Run, type "eventvwr.msc" and click OK, click Application on the left-side,
then look for Error's from the "MsiInstaller" source. The most recent one should be it,
assuming you haven't had any other problems with a Windows Installer. Double-click the Error,
and look in the Description field for a more accurate description of the problem. If you post
this description (there may be multiple errors in the Event Viewer, so post all of them), we
may be able to help much more easier.

Hi Simon,
To correct this problem, close all Messenger's currently running (including MSN Messenger
6.x) by right-clicking on their icons in the notification area/system tray and choosing Exit.
Then click Start, then Run, type "%windir%\winsxs" and click OK.
Right-click the "x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.RtcDll_6595b64144 ccf1df_5.2.2.1" folder
(the name will be longer, the key parts are rtcdll and 5.2.2.1) and Delete it. Then try
installing Windows Messenger 5 again.
