I am installing a second hard drive in WindowsXP Home already have the
primary
hard drive in and would like to know how to set up the hardware and
software
settings for the additional drive?

If you know some web page or pages that have the answer I would really
appreciate it.
Thanks:Terry

Hi Terry,

Usually there are good diagrams with the drive in the box. Essentially, =
you are probably looking at adding it as a slave to one of the available =
ide connectors. All you need to do is set the jumper in the proper place =
(again, this is diagramed in the manual and on the back of the drive), =
connect the ide cable and any available power connection. Install it in =
an open drive bay rack with a couple of scews and walla, you're done. =
Once up and running again, right-click "My Computer", choose manage and =
use this utility to partition and format the drive for use.

Here is a page from pcmech describing the procedure:

Hi,

Though there are documents for this purpose, I recommend
not to try them yourself as this could damage your
existing hardware and even mess up the configuration of
your PC. I recommend you to approach any hardware expert
who will configure the jumper on your hard disk and make
it the slave disk and then do the formatting on the new
hdd and then help you with the final setup.

All is revealed here:

If I have to name just one genuine step-by-step instruction manual, this is
it. Its clarity is truly exemplary, with stunning colour photographs to
boot. ( By the way, don't bother with the software as yet, or, at the very
least remember to create a Restore Point before you download them.)
