Joystick woes

I'm trying to install a serial port joystick but xp
doesn't see it. When I go into "add hardware" I get
a "Cannot Run Two Device Installations". It tells me I
must wait for a previous installation to finish before
starting a new one. Trouble is, I don't remember any
previous install that didn't finish. How do I get this
program to install?

Did you install drivers for the joystick before you plugged
the connector into the computer? If not, plugging the
joystick in began the installation and it couldn't find the
drivers to finish the job. [my guess]
