Hi all...

I had 1280x1024 screen resolution on my Viewsonic E773 monitor. I changed
that to 800x600 to make a test, but now, monitor doesn't let me go back to
1280x1024 resolution. Where is that information stored so that I could
change it by hand?

thanks
Jaime

Right click on a open space on your desktop, click properties, click
settings, and change to desired resolution.

Sorry... maybe I wasn't clear. I have changed the resolution the way you are
saying. The problem is that I couldn't go bac to the original resolution, so
I want to try to change it directly where it is stored... in registry or
something.

Thanks
Jaime

In first place, why doesn't windows let you change the resolution? Maybe
there's a drivers problem. Or may be the refresh rate of the monitor at
800x600 is too high for mantein it at 1280x1024. Try to lower it at 60Hz and
then change the resolution. After that don't forget to change the refresh
rate at it's maximum capable. Hope that helps.

That's the point.... when I try to go back to the original resolution,
monitor loses synchronism..... vertical refresh grows a lot so that monitor
cannot work, but, why did I have that resolution before and now windows
doesn't let me to change it?

Other fact, a problem I always had was that when I was logged with a user
that has 1152x864 and then switch off (not log off) to my user, that had
1280x1024, always synchronism was lost. To avoid it, I needed to log off and
then log on with my user.

I tried to use either 60 or 75 Hz but resolution doesn't want to change. If
that worked before means that video card and monitor can "talk" using that
resolution. Maybe something was silently disconfigured and that is what I
want to discover (or if I cannot discover, I plan to modify that setting at
a lower level, such as by modifying the registry or something)

Thanks
Jaime

ah! and to make more it clear... the resolution actually changes, but
monitor stops working (displaying horizontal lines and a message telling
problems about vertical refresh). When that happens, I need to press reset
button and when I log on again, resolution hasn't changed.

You could go into Safe mode and try changing the resolution there. If not,
try deleteing the monitor from Device Manager. Windows should then
re-detect the monitor.

Thanks Yves...

I have tried using safe mode to change the resolution and it didn't work,
but the suggestion to remove and then reinstall monitor driver did.
