cd rom drive

When booting up I get a screen saying cant find F drive
(cd rom drive).I think this has to do with the software
on my pc when i updated to windows xp. It said software
is not compatiable with windows xp and that it is
blocking the drivers from being used. I thought i deleted
the software but i still get the same results when i boot
up. As of now my F drive does not work. I can use some
help in trying to figure this out
