I'm having similar problems, except the supposed
solutions aren't working and even seem to be making the
problem worse.
Device in question is a QUE! external CD-RW drive (a few
years old but never really used). At first, computer
recognized this OK during Add New Hardware. But no
software seemed to recognize this as an I/O device.
Device manager recognized it at first but kept giving me
the black exclamation point and a "10 error - This device
cannot start" or something to that effect. Reinstalled
and it worked OK, but then I got the same message
concerning network controller.
Read KB. Tells me to load SP 1 and all will be well.
After install, neither device showed up in Devman.
Attempted to reinstall but it kept telling me it couldn't
find a driver for this device. Que!'s site says it
doesn't need one under Win XP, but seemed to suggest
changing the card (in my case the one installed by
Gateway with the PC) might change things.
What to do? One possible issue that seemed to emerge from
perusing the KB: the drive has a separate electric cord
and doesn't get covered under Power Management
(apparently that may be an issue).
