I changed my motherboard and after that I couldn't boot up my pc anymore.

Neither in normal mode nor in safe mode.

When in safe mode the last driver loaded is MUP.sys

I tried to boot with the WinXP CD but it hangs when before I can choose any
option in the windows setup blue screen.

Any help would be much appreciated

TIA

Martin

I answered your first post. Please wait more than a few moments to post
again, keep posts about one subject in a single thread, and remember

If you changed the motherboard then XP will not be able to start because of
product activation. The product activation is mainly based on the
motherboard. SO at each boot up, XP checks to see if the hardware
components it originally used for product activation are still installed.
If they do not match, XP refuses to start.

A repair re-install should fix your problem.

Product Activation has nothing to do with what's causing the problem.

You've changed you hardware, but the OS still thinks it's working with
the old mainboard. It's going out during boot and trying to find
resources where they used to be, but they aren't there anymore.

Think of it this way: if you completely replaced your car engine with
an engine of a completely different design, but hooked it up to the
old ignition control system, do you think the car would start?

The OS is confused, and when XP gets confused, it basically crashed,
restarts, or as you experienced, locks up. MUP.SYS is not what is
hanging; that's the last device driver that loads. The system is
hanging after that.

I do agree that a repair install, if not a full install, should
resolve the proble. Oh, and you probably will have to re-activate as
well.

But I still stand by my opening statement: Product Activation isn't
the problem. The significant change is hardware is.
