View Full Version : disk corruption at shutdown

XP seems to allow shutdown before data is fully flushed
to disk causing disk corruptions at next power up.

Am using XP on RAID controller with 2 mirrored disks,
WD600JB with 8MB cache.

Gigabyte GA-SINXP1394 M/B, PIV 2.66 GHz, 512MB RAM
(Integrated ITE GigaRAID controller)

Does anybody Pleeeeeeeease have any registry or other
tips/fixes to resolve this?

Are those disk hardware mirrored or are you using dynamic drives that are
mirrored?

Turn off Write-Caching on all drives.

RAID controller is mirroring the entire disk. Pretty sure
it's the GigaByte/ITE RAID driver (Non WHQL) that allows
the shutdown prematurely. Was looking for a possible
registry entry that can delay PowerDown at the end of
shutdown. Somebody suggested disabling the write behind
cache, which I could use as a last resort.

Yes, that does work.

Thanks very much for your help. If I can't find another
workaround I will do that.

Many thanks again
