Windows Help Message Box

I have Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack
1. I've recently encountered a Windows Help Message box
which appears on the screen every time I boot up: "Cannot
find the .exe file. Do you want to try to find this file
yourself?" The message box has "yes" and "no" buttons.
This message box is followed by a syntax error message
box. If I select "yes" (on the Help Message Box), I am
directed to a directory window to try and find it. If I
select "no", the message goes away but pops up again in
about 5 seconds and continues to replicate itself. I
cannot get any work done (like writing a letter) since I
have to delete the "new" help message each time one
appears before I can type again. Can anyone help me,

think that you mean inserting the operating system cd in
my D drive when the help message shows up? Do you think
that somehow a diagnostic will show up then? What do you
think may occur? I am just asking, because I dont have a
clue.

Thanks, all. I tried inserting the reinstallation cd in
the D drive but "nothing happened", i.e., my computer
didn't download the help file it was looking for. The
screen asked what I wanted to do, i.e., the four options
(Install XP, Install optional components, Perform
additional tasks, Check system compatibility). I
rebooted, but the same help message box reappeared.
Should I reinstall?

If the system is looking for this exe. it can download it off the cd. Hope this helps. You can also try this; start, run and type
sfc /scannow with the cd in the drive.
