LPT1 install problem

I just upgraded from Windows 98 to XP home edition, and cannot print because LPT1 did not get set up in the installation. It is not listed as a hardware device, under device manager. LPT3 is listed but noted that it is not functional.
Help.

Go into the BIOS of the PC and check LPT is enable.

If you kept your printer connected to the PC during the upgrade, you'll also
need to COMPLETELY uninstall it. You've corrupted the drivers.
