i have an ata66 cable connected to an ata33 controller and a sole cdrw
master on it. now the burning(xp) works flawlessly but reading from the disc
in the same drive is not possible(i/o error), but if i insert the disc in
the dvd drive it reads it ok.
could it be that the ata66 cables are a nono for ata33 ???
thanks

The 80 wire - 40 pin cable is backward compatible. Could be a defective
cable though!

Or it could be that your drive is becoming defective. I have seen units
where I could burn CDs but not read them.

fixed!!
the problem was the drive was to far from the mainboard connector (found an
online article about ata66 cables and viola! -everything works just fine)
