(1) When I select Start, Run and type in "msconfig". The
msconfig utility comes up for two seconds and then
disappears.
(2) When I Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, the Windows Task Manager
comes up for two seconds and then disappears.
(3) When I right click on "My Computer" and I select
Properties, I get the error message: The procedure entry
point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be
located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll. The Title
of the error message is: rundll32.exe - Entry point not
found
(4) When I try to run System Restore, I get the same
error message as above and the title of the Error Message
is: rstrui.exe - Entry Point Not Found. I get a lot of
Error Messages similar to above.

Sounds like a virus! Check for viruses and remove/un-install them with any
virual removal tool. The most common anti-virus programs are: Norton
Anti-Virus and McAfee.

yeh... i may have been hacked because i had to re-install
norton internet security and now that works fine. before,
i could NOT enable norton security. shortly before this
problem, i had PERMANENTLY deleted files which had been
erased by the trash can.

If your NAV system check doesn't show a virus infection then go to the
Norton website and look through their checklist of recent viruses for
similar symptoms - especially the targeting of anti-virus programs and
associated files... they have specialised download tools for dealing with
virus infections... the symptoms you describe are known (can't recall
off-hand the virus signature name)

Hope that helps
Pete
