invalid syntax error

I cannot open most email attachments.I must have changed
something by accident 'cuz I use to be able to open all of
them! When I try to open them most say "Invalid Syntax
Error" & it doesn't even have an address window. I have no
idea what file format it is. Can someone please help me or
suggest something to do. Thanks.
