Hello,

my USB scanner is being recognized as an "unknown device" under XP. I
cannot update the drivers. XP always tells me that there are no better
drivers available when pointing it to the latest drivers. No trick
solved that problem. The driver deletion utility from Canon does not
work, too. It's disgusting.

How can I force Windows XP to _remove_ the corresponding drivers
_totally_? Just "deinstalling" them does not work.

Regards,
Mark

I've got a D1250U2, don't know the 'F' which runs OK.

What I have done is:

1. Downloaded the latest Canon drivers etc. and saved them on disk in a new
folder, 'Canon scanner'. (I did this and had trouble double-clicking on
them and expecting WinZip to open them. It did not and I've had some
exchange of e-mails with WinZip on this. They are supposed to be
self-executing files but do not want to execute.)

2. Removed the Canon scanner from device manager completely. You may have
to go to safe mode (F8 on boot) to remove all remnants of previous
drivers).

3. Reboot. When the new hardware wizard comes up say 'have disk' and then
navigate to your 'Canon scanner' folder. It should then pick up the proper
drivers and remember them.

Curiously, Microsoft's problem solver solved my problem :-).

The problem was: as far as I can remember, I aborted the driver
installation upon first connection. After that the scanner was in a
bad state and Windows XP could not identify it any more. Resetting the
scanner by unplugging the power cable removed the problem at once.

It is somewhat unprofessional that an every day situation can force a
Canon scanner into a bad state. Tststs...
