email servers come in several variations of protocols...POP,
IMAP, smtp and others.
suggest you do a search on www.gopogle.com for "setting up a
server" or "setting up a mail server" and you'll have plenty
of sources.

Are you sure your ISP isn't blocking port 25?

A Google search found over 1-1/2 million hits. The subject is too big to cover in a news group or by email. You need to find some text and or technical books and study for weeks or months.

First you need to know what it is that you want and why you want it. Do you want to become an ISP? Or do you just want your own email address such as

You can lease a URL of your choice and hire a web service to host your site. They will do the work, you'll pay a modest fee and have an email server and your choice of email account names.

Even if you want to be the host, you have a lot to learn and could begin by hiring a host while you learn to be your own host.

Better check with you DSL supplier, many won't allow you to host email for others.

Here is the first few returns from Google...

Your welcome, I don't know what the available services are in Uruguay, but you can buy a service from Yahoo or other providers for only a few dollars (US) monthly. They will host pop email and a website, check http://www.geocities.com for information.

Also, check http://www.godaddy.com

Do a Google search for "web hosting Uruguay" to find local people willing to provide the service to you. You can do it yourself, but unless you are very careful you can a lot of viruses and have a lot of work to do to keep the service working. Servers must be open to the Internet and are targets for attack.

Good luck.

You might also find some good information at some sites I've listed below, just search them for useful articles.

I have used a program with good success called Internet Anywhere Mail
Server, available at www.tnsoft.com. Configuration is straightforward, and
it just works. Never had it crash once.
