Latest Updates for XP Home

I have just (24/4/03) applied the latest updates for
Windows XP Home Edition and found, after downloading and
installing the software, my system is running slower?

Has anyone else found this problem or have any ideas why
this may be the case?

Yes, a fix is in progress or you can either delete the bad
update or turn your anti-virus background scan off.

There must be a dozen or more threads about this for the
past several days. MS Help & Support has posted on this
also.

I decided to delete the bad update 811493 and it did solve
the slow problem...but on rebooting McAfee reported that the
VS 6 was damaged because something had messed with it. The
instruction was to boot with the McAfee CD, do a scan and
the a repair install.

All is well and the virus scan works just fine but I did
have to re-register Outlook with VS so the HAWK would work.

I have not gone back to Windows Update yet, going to do that
in a minute and see what is reported.
