read only

Ok, I realize that MS made the shared files "Read only"...
But now I can't change the files from a networked 98
machine. Does this have anything to do with not being
able to open dos files saved on the XP machine from a
remote computer running 98? The machine manufacturer just
said they couldn't help and i needed to upgrade my
programs to XP compatible... Easy for them to say!

Any help will be appreciated.
