Has anyone used the linksys usb wireless network adapter? I've purchased
one and have tried it on both a win2000 pro pc and my xp pro laptop. Both
of which have usb enabled and use other usb devices - but when you plug in
the linksys the systems do not recognize it for plug and play, nor on add
new hardware.

When I plug the usb in, the linksys power light does come on (it is powered
by the usb port). But, like I said - neither pc nor laptop recognize it as
a device on the system.

Any ideas? Bad device

I'm not familiar with that device. The one USB wireless adapter I've tried
(different brand)came with a driver disk. Installed the drivers and the
device according to directions in the package and it's been working ever
since.

Two Possibilities;

1. Need to install Driver prior to attaching th unit to the USB Port

2. The unit may be USB2 and you are trying to install it into a USB1.1
connection.

under win2k it is required to install driver first. Under xp they do not
want you to install the driver first. I followed directions to the letter
when trying it on both machines. Neither recognize it as a new device.

Is the device listed in the device manager under Network Adapters as "
Instant Wireless USB Network Adapter" ? If it is, then install the WLAN
Monitor from the Device CD, Reboot, WLAN Monitor icon will be in the System
Tray. Right click the icon, then click "Restore" from the drop down menu.
Go to the connections tab, check box that states "Attempt auto-connect to
any network in range", then click the connect button.

no, it was not showing up in DM under NA as IWUNA.

After dl'ing the latest drivers from linksys, then fighting with their
stupid chat (they kept disconnecting) I finally called and got through to
TS. Explain the situation, and after going through the "basics" she asks
"Did you try inverting the cable". Well, yes I had on the 2000 box, and it
did nothing, and I'd tried it on this xp box on the unit I returned the
other day. But - sure enough, I invert the cable and gosh golly gee - it
was recognized and the wizard came up.

Feeling a bit sheepish. :) But hey - I did try that before calling, and it
didn't work then. Techsupport mojo was working tonight I guess.
