HELP!!!!! DVD-ROM

I got this new computer it is an ibm....and i have a dvd-
rom but ANYTHING that i have put in there it replies to
me to insert a cd into the drive!!!!!!!I am fustrated and
it says that the device is working properly....I dont
understand??????If anyone can help please fell
