I recently downloaded direct x 9.0 version( from the
microsoft site ) and installed it. Now I have trouble
with my sound. It sounds like chip and dale ( the
chipmunks ) are talking. Very high pitched. It is the
same with either movies or cd audio playing. Can someone
tell me what I have done wrong here please?

Go to the manufacturer's web site and look around for an updated driver for your
sound card.
