I opened an email and the popups started flying. Now I
have 3 icons on my desktop that will not allow me to
delete them. When I do, the next time I boot up they are
back. I purchased spykiller off the internet (which
will not allow me to change the default setting either)
and had to kill 5 different spyware things. I need to
know how to get these things pertmanently off my jdesk to
and how to prevent this from ever happening again. Also
I need to know of a good program out there that will stop
spam and popups things from getting into my computer.

I need some help bad.

Good information here;

When you get to the prevention section you'll find a link for Spyware
Blaster (freeware) which I have been using for sometime with good results.

There are a large number of programs out for this type problem. I personally use Zone Alarm Pro. I tried several different ones and found Zone Alarm Pro works the best on everything for me. It stopped all of this type junk and hackers too.

Greetings --

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Smiley Central, Xupiter,
Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately
(but without understanding the consequences) installed, two products
that are quite effective (at finding and removing this type of
scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search &
Destroy from www.safer-networking.org/. Both have free versions.
It's even possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your
system against most future intrusions. I use both and generally
perform manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.

Additionally, manual removal instructions for the most common
varieties of scumware are available here:

PC Hell Spyware and Adware Removal Help
http://www.pchell.com/support/spyware.shtml

The best way to prevent adware and spyware from getting onto one's
system is to simply practice common sense. Set your email client to
view all emails as plain text only. Don't open unknown email
attachments. Don't blindly click links on web pages offering "free"
games, cursors, icons, etc.

You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on
having both at once. -- RAH
