This might be a really daft question but how do I get
Windows XP Home Edition to boot into DOS?
Many thanks

Hi David,
Since there is no DOS in a NT system (of which WinXP is one), there is =
no way to boot into it (as it doesn't exist). Start/run cmd to run any =
dos commands/programs you have in the dos emulator.

XP has a dos emulator. Start> Run> CMD for the 32-bit emulator. Works with
most things that will run in a DOS window on a Win9x machine. Start> Run>
Command is available too but it is not as versatile as CMD.
If you need "real" DOS, you could boot from a dos floppy disk. Or use a
partition manager and dual boot between XP and your favorite flavor of DOS.
Scandisk didn't leave. It was never present in the NT family of Windows.

You cannot boot into MS-DOS in WinXP as there is no DOS in it. However, you
can go to the command prompt as: select Start - Run. Type cmd and hit Enter.

You cannot boot into a pure DOS environment.
Scandisk is now called CHKDSK (as it was called prior to Win98).

DOS is now accessed through the command prompt only. You can no
longer boot into DOS. You can do everything you used to be able to do
- create bat files, make directories, and so on - through the command
prompt.
PS Ignore the nay sayers who say there is no DOS. Either through lack
of understanding or other some people seem to enjoy suggesting
something they clearly do not fully comprehend.

What are you trying to do that you need to boot into dos for?

You can boot into DOS on an XP machine only by using a floppy boot disk.
For most DOS programs you should use the CMD prompt from the start/run menu.
If your system has its hard disk/s formatted as NTFS booting from a floppy
will prevent access to the NTFS disk but if you use the CMD prompt you can
access the NTFS disks from the DOS prompt.
