View Full Version : Win XP no longer recognizes DVD+R media after SP1

Hello,

My appologizes for the cross-post

I have an NEC DVD+RW 1100A that I got from NewEgg. Completely OEM, no
manuals, cables, nothing .. except a Nero Express CD.

When I first installed Win XP (a reinstall as part of a MB upgrade
actually), it correctly recognized DVD+R media as having 4.7 gb.
After I installed SP1, it no longer detects DVD+R media, but does
detect CD-R media (??).

I am now trying to use Nero Express, which does recognize the drive
and the media. However, when I go to burn a data disk (just backing
up a bunch of MPEG files as data files) it will get through the burn
cycle just fine (??), but it will then fail on the verify cycle (error
log below). It looks like only 6 out of the 20 files are readable. I
have tried just about every setting possible and have so far made 3
coasters. Below are hardware specifics and an error log file.

Any help appreciated!

Sorry this isn't going to be terribly helpfull, but: have you thought of
posting this to alt.os.windows-xp ?
You don't exactly seem to be the first person to have suffered this fate
after installing an XP service pack, so it looks like it is an XP issue
rather than a hardware issue. I'm not being awkward - I would help you if I
could, but I won't touch XP with a barge-pole !
On second thoughts, maybe it might help a little of you visit the NEC
hardware site and download the latest drivers and software pack for your
DVD+RW drive. Uninstall the existing drivers via device manager, then use
the new drivers you've downloaded when XP's hardware detection recognises
the drive and asks for drivers. It may well work, and shouldn't do any harm
to have the latest drivers installed.

I wouldn't touch it with _your_ 10 foot barge pole. I wonder if
the OP ever read the EULA when he installed that pack.
