I have just downloaded Apple Quicktime for PC in order to
view a commercially provided video. I have tried
unsuccessfully to view it and several other QuickTime
formated videos. I am unseccessful, a Microsoft Internet
Explorer Caution warning indicates: "This page provides
unsafe information to an ActnX control. Your curent
security settings prohibit running controls in this
manner. As a result this page may not display correctly."
1. What is ActnX? 2. Are the current security settings
(default)necessary? 3. Why? 4. What can I do to utilise
QuickTime in order to view these videos? Thanks.

Hi, first of all, can you start Quick time and will it
start without errors? If so, start it first, then open
one of your files -- I suppose the file extention is .mov,
if it's not, check for compatability with quick time. If
it's not .mov you may have a partial download (incomplete
download) or a corrupted download on your hands.
If you get an error message from Quick time when you try
and open the file, read it and look to quick time (apple
web site) for a solution. You know that quick time is a
program for playing the apple multimedia specification
files on a DOS PC?
As far as the other warnings, they probably have nothing
to do with the fact the quick time won't play. The
security settings on your PC are set to detect when
certain events occur. The warning does not mean that the
file you are going to run contains a virus or can perform
a harmful activity on your computer, it simply means that
the security setting is set to warn you about files that
may contain damaging content. If you are sure that the
file you are going to view is virus free, the just
disregard the warning. If you are not sure, then you
should use a virus detection program to scan it before
execution. Of coure, there is no guarantee that the a
file free of viruses won't install a program that
broadcasts spam to you.
