Hello everyone,

If anyone can figure this one out then your doing better than I have
so far ... <g>

I have 3 hard disks and I am attempting to back them up using Windows
XP Professional back-up utility from the program.

Every time I attempt to back-up the 3 disks, and also the System
State, the back-up will continue until it is about halfway through the
full backup and then it says:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Backup Type: Copy

Backup started on 5/21/2003 at 1:21 PM.

Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\COM+ Class
Registration Database.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.

Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\Registry.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.

Backup completed on 5/21/2003 at 1:23 PM.
Directories: 177
Files: 2232
Bytes: 360,416,582
Time: 1 minute and 32 seconds
Critical files that make up System State were not successfuly backed
up.
Restoring this backup set will cause system failure.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried everything from changing security settings, tried running
the back-up without checking the System State box, tried to do the
back-up about 5 times and it always quits doing the backup and that
message is included in the -report- section.

I have tried doing this in both regular and safe mode with no luck
either.

I own the computer itself and as far as I know I sign myself on as an
administrator.

If anyone can figure out how to solve this problem I would be very
thankful ................

If you wish to perform a system backup which requires spanning
multiple CDs, you'll need a full-featured backup program to do so.

Microsoft's backup program is not sophisticated enough to permit
spanning multiple CDs. A full-featured backup program is what you
need. Take a look at: http://www.ntibackupnow.com/default.asp

Open XP's "Help and Support" and type: CD RECORDING , and hit enter.
The click on the topic titled: "Copy Files and Folders to a CD".

Another thought -- Are you using NTFS or FAT32? There is a file size limit
of 4GB with FAT32. If this applies, break your single backup job down into a
few smaller jobs.
