I have Windows XP on a notebook with a touchpad. On installing a new mouse
(Microsft IntelliPoint wireless ), the install software wants permission to
remove the touchpad software (Synaptics Touchpad ). It seems to me that i
need to keep the touchpad sotware. I have looked in Control Panel > Mouse to
try and set both devices to operate at once - no luck. So how do I get
around the mouse install problem. Thank you.

You shouldn't have to remove the touchpad software as both can exist at the
same time.

I had the Wireless mouse with a Compaq Laptop and didn't have these issues.

Have you tried just using the Wireless mouse with the drivers that XP auto
detects?
