My Compaq 7AP134 running WinXP Pro SP-1 does note
recognize my Sony DCR-TRV330 videocamera. Device Manager
says the adapter is working, but nothing is detected when
I plug in the cable and turn on the camera. Could it be
cable or both of the 1394 outlets on the PC being bad?
How do you troubleshoot the 1394 connections? The USB
cable works fine for the Memory Stick still pics.

try turning the camera on and then plug it in.

This is a bug in WinXP SP1. They forgot about IEEE 1394
when they made this SP. They claim it will be fixed in
SP2, but who knows when that will be released? Anyway,
there is one update available for you with Win XP English
version (I have the Swedish version). Look here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Patch/Q3292
56/WXP/EN-US/q329256_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe

Hope it works!

Another tip is that you go to this Knowledge Base article
and read what you can do manually:

us;329256
