I have a system using Win XP Pro, that has developed a
fault. When powered on it starts to boot gets to the blue
screen immediatley before the password should be displayed
and then reboots. This happens regardless of the boot mode
(i.e safemode). Is it likely to be the OS or hardware?

If you have no luck in working out exactly what the problem is you could try
the repair install from the XP CD.
With the installation CD in place, start the system.
Choose the boot from CD option.
Rather than selecting the recovery console carry on through the options
until you can select the existing XP install and choose repair existing
installation.
You will need to re-install SP1 and any other updates afterwards but you
shouldn't need to re-activate.
I had to go through the same procedure at the start of this week after
encountering a similar problem.
Hope that helps
