View Full Version : Documents and Settings folder

I bought a new machine with everything pre-installed. The username for the
Documents and Settings folder is shown as "Owner". Will I mess up anything
if I rename the folder to a more meaningful name? Or if rename won't do the
trick, how should I go about doing it?
Thanks for any help.

The underlying folder name remains the same even when you change an
account's user name. So trying to rename the Documents and Settings folder
is the wrong way to go. What you could do is create a new user account. Log
off and then log on to the new user account to have its folders created. The
user name and folder will match until you rename the user account (user name
changes/folder name stays the same).

You can use the control panel/users to rename an account,
change settings, create new accounts. It is expected that
users will create accounts.
