I installed XP on laptop to replace ME but on start up I
get a choice of both. I can now use either OS but both
run very slowly so I'm guessing there's a conflict(and
too little RAM also). Can anyone tell me me how to
completely dump the ME? Thank you.

It appears you selected the optional "New Installation" choice during =
XP's
initial setup phase and managed to install XP on the same partition =
Windows
ME is installed on. This is a problem since major instability issues =
arise
when two O/S's reside on the same partition. At this point, you need to =
delete
all your partitions, create a new partition, format the partition =
(preferably NTFS)
and reinstall Windows XP.
The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:
1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your =
computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the =
existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the =
primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.
5. Windows XP Clean Install:=20

Just a suggestion, in your copy-n-paste XP install instruction. Suggest =
to visit the help sites you provide before doing instruction #4.

Hi Jack,
You can simply boot WinXP, then delete the WinME system folders from =
Windows Explorer. Then edit boot.ini (a hidden system file on the root =
of the boot partition) to remove the references to it. This can also be =
done by editing the startup settings on the advanced tab of system =
properties in the Control Panel.
