Hi everybody,

I've formatted my hard drive a couple of days ago and I
cannot get my Hercules Fortissimo 2 to work with Windows
XP Pro.

I've done everything carefully : formatting the drive,
installing Windows, the motherboard drivers, the graphics
card and finally the sound card.

I've tried with all available hercules drivers (from 1.02
to the latest 6.09) and several methods (with or without
the hardware wizard). And I've removed all the hercules
system files and registry entries before every attempt.

After the setup, the computer reboots. Afterwards, the
same error message comes up every time. It's in french,
but roughly translated, it says "Peripherial cannot be
installed / Invalid data".

I don't know why, since everything was working just fine
two days ago, using the same hardware AND running the
same drivers. And the computer runs fine, except for this
problem.

ABIT KG7 RAID motherboard
Leadtek Winfast Ge2 GTS graphics card
Leadtek WinTV 2000XP TV tuner
Hercules Fortissimo II sound card

Thanks for any help you could provide !

Fred.

Consider replacing that old sound card with a new one. Creative
makes an excellent line of sound cards...their SoundBlaster Live!
MP3+ 5.1 is an excellent value with outstanding performance.

Ensure this sound card is verified by the manufacturer to work in Windows
XP. If it is then try downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer.
Should that fail then try swapping the card from it's present slot into
another adjacent PCI slot. Also check and see if your PC or motherboard
manufacturer recommends any type of BIOs update to deal with sound card
related problems.
