View Full Version : Trouble installing SB Audigy 2 Platinium

I have had no luck in the installation of Sound Blaster's
Audigy 2 Platinium software on my new Windows XP
(recently upgraded from 98). It would initiate the
installation and then go blank, with an occasional v.
small error window that made no sense to me. I would
click ok and the program would stop responding, forcing
me to call on Task Manager to end the program.
When I tried to download the Audigy software from SB
homepage, it would state that VDM drivers must be removed
before installation can proceed (and must be reinstalled
after SB installation is complete). The best that I can
troubleshoot is that Windows Media Player drivers are
conflicting with SB drivers for Audigy...
Does anyone have any advise for this poor, confused music
lover? I just wants to enjoy some good music on the
computer (with some Boston Acoustic Digital BA735
speakers). I would greatly appreciate any assistance on
this matter.
Carlos.

I have an Audigy 2, and I installed it before WMP in a recent fresh OS
install. Try removing WMP, installing the Audigy, and if you still need
it, then install WMP. With the Audigy 2, I don't have any need for WMP
now.

A few things to try here:
Turn off the PC and open the case, remove the card.
Restart the PC without the card installed.
Check in Device Manager than no SB card exists in Sound, Video and Game
Controllers.
Ensure that all SB software is removed from the Add/Remove Programs in the
Control Panel.
Turn off PC.
Open case and install card, preferably in the PCI slot furthest away from
the AGP slot.
Turn on PC and enter the BIOS. Ensure Plug and Play is disabled in the
BIOS.
Turn PC on and see if XP now finds the card.
