Hi there,

When I have used my printer once after booting my PC I am not able to use my
scanner any more. The only solution is te reboot my PC.

The error message I get is " Parallel port may be used by another
application"

I am using an Epson Stylus color 440 printer on the parallel port, with
Epson W2000 version 5.00 printer driver
I am running Windows XP home edition.
On the same paralle port I am using a Canon scanner: FB 630P

So I guess the printer driver does not release my the parallel port after I
have used it once.

Any suggestion how to solve this?

BR, Heja

Greetings --

You can try to contact the printer's manufacturer for updated
drivers, but it may do you little good. Most printer manufacturers,
including Epson, the last time I checked, are quite adamant about not
supporting any parallel devices not of their own making between the
PC's parallel port and the printer. Of course, the makers of parallel
port scanners, Zip drives, and other such devices know this, so they
try to make their own products' drivers capable to resetting the port
before use. Have you installed the very latest WinXP-specific drivers
provided by Canon?

XP doesn't support daisy chaining of devices on the parallel port. If
either of your devices has a USB port then it is advisable to use it. If
not, then you'll need to add an extra parallel port.
